A post I did for school
Also to add on to the comments about the Theory of Freud. The reason I feel he is criticized is because a lot of it feels like it is centered around the boys to their mothers, but when the idea of girls to their father was suggested he didn't accept. I do like the concepts of the personality theory and I agree with defense mechanism in the general theory. However, the psychosexual portion tends to distort and makes it in my opinion a little confusing.
Sexual development is a part of psychological development, and the obvious need to explore that for overall mental health is rather obvious with the growth in Sex Therapist. However, my personal view of how Freud treated sexual development was far too generalized and far too mixed into the overall personality theory that it it is confusing and hard to figure out where and what.
What the Neo-Freudians did was take that theory, and break it down with further study. I don't think the desire towards the mother is sexual, but rather as Maslow's describe as a need for security. I think the reason is that he examined the base human as an animal, and an animal mother in nature protects her infants from harm. By instinct, the child knows this and goes to them for protection and nurturing. Now I do believe that men who do not progress from the nurturing state will have problems, but not for the sexual desires that I felt Freud was leading to.
So in essence, I am not saying Freud was a complete idiot and didn't know what he was talking about. However, I believe if I remember right that he did case study based on other examinations not conducted himself and examination done on rich women. By today's standards, his work would of been found unreliable due to the limits of his finding. While I respect the fact he brought forth a whole new idea of psychology, I feel his views were far too limited versus the others psychologist that came after him with other ideas that form a much broader spectrum of how we tick. With this in mind, the fact that he mashed together sexual development with the overall personality would give people cause to question.
I have read my fellow classmates responses both positive and negative towards Freudian. In certain lights, he does make sense. However if he gives you certain triggers to look for, it is very possible you will find them in children and adults because they do exist. However, they do not fully explain the total psychological traits of humans. To be fair, I think all psychologist mentioned in the book have a full grasp of the personality in a person. I think this is the reason why personality disorders can be hard to diagnose and treat because we don't fully understand the complexity of the mind.
In my personal view, I do have respect for psychologist, and I don't think there is a right or wrong answer for any of the theories. Freud does explain certain aspects of a personality, so he is right. However, he may be wrong about other aspects. This is precisely why it is called a theory.
Let's take physics for example. The Theory of Relativity is something we can slightly prove. Without Star Trek type technology, we cannot prove exactly what Eistein predicted, but we know it is possible. Then how does that differ with the Law of Gravity? Although the math is complex, what goes up indeed does come down when Gravity is involved. The same thing can be said about the personality theories.
There is evidence that we seek security, but there is also evidence of the Oedipus complex. I once met a kid who literally said they were going to marry their mom. While assisting a cub scout summer camp (I was over 18 and an Eagle Scout), this particular kid slept in the same tent with his mom rather then sleep in a tent with another kid. By Scout policy, he couldn't sleep in the same tent with me. If you followed the news of the 90's, you can probably deduce why. Other cub scouts were sharing their tents with other boys their age, but he insisted if he could not sleep in the same tent as me, he will sleep in the same tent as his mom.
Now that may not be evidence itself, but the constant closeness and the statement of marrying his mom itself is a general indication. Now when I was a Weblos about to head into Boy Scout, I did sleep in the same tent as my father due to trust issues. However when I got into Boy Scouts, my father and godfather would sleep in a command tent, and I would sleep with my patrol. While I do have a closeness with my mom, I am my own individual with other psychiatric issues that is slowly being addressed.
However when I look at my issues, I can state I am in the Genital stage and beyond, but yet I still have some issues that need to be resolve. The Neo-Freudians and other Psychological Theorist went beyond those stages, and developed what can cause a person to have issues.
In the end, Freud's theory was limited. However, Neo-Freudian and others expanded the ideas into a more solid foundation then what existed before Freud.

on the mind
Somedays, the fan base seem small, but that all you really need. Popularity is sometimes something to aim for, but somedays you just have to..you know...be happy you achieve something then nothing.

Elite attitude
One thing I experience here and there in the community is the amount of elitism. Basically, it is this thing where some artists thinks they can't stink, and that we need to learn from them. The biggest problem? When they come off as rude.
So maybe you have been modelling, texturing, or whatever since the dawn of time, but does that give you the privilege to forget manners? My answer is no.

Happy Holidays
As you might be able to tell, I don't post a lot in this blog, and that is kind of weird. This year saw only 12 blogs while 2007 saw 34.
People look back at 2008 and go "What the hell?" Allow me to list the what the hells for me:
1. Lost my job
2. Had a flareup of Fibromyaglia
3. Lost my ability to drive
Despite the economy and health, I am still strong. One of the positive highlights of 2008 is:
1. I finished animating Rite of Passage. :)
With all the bad, you must also count the good. :)

My World
I just got done watching "Children of a Lesser God", and it kind of made me think. Can anyone truly understand me? Can they truly get inside my head and go "Dana is this way because..."
I know 90% of the time I am quite secretative and private, and for good reason. I really have a hard time trusting people. Watching Marlee Matlin in that movie made me think of myself..well except for the fucking better then hearing boys or other topics. However, people look at closed caption on the TV and go "Cool."
It is a convenience so you don't have to take in every sound or whisper, and you know what they say.
But do you also consider there are people like me who can't sit in the movies because I can't understand 50% of the dialogue? Without closed captions, I wouldn't be able to understand tv. It was an interesting reminder, that movie.

What counts?
Some days I look around and wonder what matters anymore. For example, today. I got yet another cold versus a bronchospasm. The problem is..it is possibly bronchitis. Now, for those of you wondering how one can tell the diffence:
1. Bronchospasms, as with other asthma related symptoms, seize your air ways until you feel like you are dying. Bronchitis in progress can sound almost identical.
2. Bronchitis feels like your lungs just want to die if you try to take in a deep breath but can manage shorter breaths. Usually a result of lack of sleep and cold virus going around.
3. VERY Bad cold: Unfortunately, we know what this is like. However, typically with a very bad cold Advair or Abuteral will open myself up. Not always with bronchitis due to inflammation and infection, but a lot of times for bronchospasms. Probably what's keeping me breathing. It could also be a bad cold causing a bronchospasm, but only one way to know for sure. I think any asthmatic will fully empathesize with the fact when you get a problem with your lungs you simply don't fuck around.
Aside from that bit of drama, I did start college, and since I have not receive any private notes from my instructor I am starting off strong. I didn't have an doubts about that, but it is a good feeling anyways.:)
Also, I have applied and gotten a welcome from group that hosts erotic art as a paysite. This is my first venture into having my artwork viewed and I get paid for it..it sounds kind of interesting. I do have to be careful what I use since a few things have "No Commerial use", but other then that I am excited.:)
